Bay Ridge has many community properties. These wooded areas are a big part of what makes Bay Ridge special. These undeveloped areas include the BRCA
Herndon Avenue wooded area, the Lands of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), and the Bay Ridge Commons.
BRCA
Herndon Avenue Property
This 2½ acre site affords all Bay Ridge residents with parking
for and access to the pool, the beach and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation
land.
The Lands of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF)
CBF has made its land available to all Bay Ridge residents subject
to an agreement that we do not interfere with CBF activities. Access
to the 31 acre site includes use of the beach weekdays from sunrise
to 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM till sunset and on weekends and holidays from
sunrise to sunset. We also have the ability to explore the Black Walnut
Creek Shoreline within the 100-foot buffer zone and the woods that
stretch over to Herndon but staying away from the office building
and parking lots. For more information call Alex McCrary (410-295-9192).
The Bay Ridge Commons
The Bay Ridge Commons area is for the exclusive use of Bay Ridge
residents and guests. It includes all the land and beach between Bay
and River Drives and the water. The Commons also include special access
areas to allow people to get to the water: Bagley, Porter, Clark and
Worden Paths; and the extension of Mayo, Bainbridge, Sands and Parker
Avenues.
The Bay Ridge Commons is a fragile ribbon of land that is easily
damaged by erosion and by our use. Property owners have made substantial
investments in erosion control for the protection of these areas.
All of the Commons is in a designated Critical Area. The Bay Ridge Civic Association worked
with the Anne Arundel County government to develop a Buffer Management Plan that balances the
use of the land with the need for its protection. Compliance with this plan is mandatory; there may not be any cutting of trees or shrubs in these Common areas without express permission.
Please do not dump cuttings or yard waste over the banks. Do not
use herbicides. Do not store boats on fragile beach grasses. Do not
park cars or trailers on the Commons or the Paths.
We must be the protectors of this fragile area.
